The Elusive Robin Zander - Countryside Blvd. Record

In case you don't know by now, I'm a huge Cheap Trick fan. When I first heard about Robin Zander putting out a solo album called Countryside Blvd. I had mixed emotions. I really enjoy Robin Zander's singing but I HATE country music... wait, let me put it this way, I kind of like old country, but the country/pop music people are pushing today is the music that I HATE! So I was really curious to get this record and see what Robin had up his sleeve with this record. I heard about this record over a year ago, probably in April or May of 2010, and it was described as.. "a fresh country sound with a combination of musical styles".

The first released date I saw was May of 2010, then June 2010, then September 2010, then November 2010, and so on and so forth. Every time I looked it up it seemed like the record was being pushed back more and more. Then they released the thing on Itunes, but if you blinked you would have missed it because it was only released for a few hours and then pulled from Itunes, Amazon and Napster. I read on the Cheap Trick messageboard that a few people were lucky to pick it up, but most waited and missed out on it.

So, missing out, I waited. Occasionally I would check a few blogs and sites to see if the album leaked anywhere, but nothing was found. Until this past Monday (8-15-2011). On my way to work, I pulled out my Iphone and started my Rhapsody app. Not knowing what to listen to, for some reason I typed in Robin Zander in the search query and wham, Countryside Blvd. shows up in Rhapsody. This must be a mistake, I thought. The album isn't released yet but it's available for streaming on Rhapsody? So I streamed the album on the way to work, it sounded very good, I wouldn't call it "country" more popish than country, but Robin's songs were very good and I enjoyed the album a lot. There were a couple of clinkers on the album but overall I was impressed. Then I said to myself, I've got to listen to this again.

So a few days passed, and on my way to work on Thursday (8-18-2011), I decided to listen to Robin's album again. So I started Rhapsody, did a search on Robin Zander and... NOTHING came up!! Oh No! So I did another search for Countryside and.... NOTHING! After trying a few more times, I gave up. Then I realized they had pulled the stream. Why? Is it that they weren't supposed to put the album up on Rhapsody and nobody listened to it but me and when Rhapsody checked their playlist, they realized someone listened to Countryside, and realized that the album was not supposed to be up so they pulled it? It's a mystery!

So the elusive album mystery continues.. I'm sure this thing will be released eventually, but why all the mystery surrounding it? Why released it on digital format then pull it, why release a streaming version and then pull it? The record is not a dog, and is quite good so I don't see any good reason what the delay is. I guess we'll never know.....

Yet another update on Kok Siu-Man

Back from the ashes... I have returned to give you another update on the one and only Kok Siu-Man. Today, while surfing a few Hong Kong movie sites, I found this movie...

Mr. Bedman

What makes this movie unique? Well, it was made in 2010, and it features the one and only Kok Siu-Man! I don't know how big of a part he has in this film, but he is shown in the trailer. Now, I only wish I could find this flick somewhere to watch it and see how big Kok Siu-Man's role is .

Update on Whatever Happened to Kok Siu-Man

One of the most popular blog posts on Running With Abita has always been the "Whatever Happened to Kok Siu-Man" articles that I wrote when I first started this blog, and ever since I've been searching high and far to find out more information on what became of him. As I reported on my last article, it seemed the last anyone ever heard from him was that he was selling Ice Cream to pay for his college tuition, as evidenced from this picture I found online..

Yep, that's Kok Siu-Man in the above picture selling Ice Cream to pay for his tuition.

Other than the information that he is planning or has entered Tamkang University, I could not find a single thing more than that. But, I have found other current/semi current pictures of Kok Siu-Man using his "other" names, Bo Bo Ho and Hao Shaowen. So until I can find out more about the current whereabouts of Mr. Kok Siu-Man, please enjoy the pictures I did find...

And for old times sake... A video I found of Sik Siu-Lung and Kok Siu-Man in a TV sitcom called, Dare To Be A Happy Person (?)..

Pappy Kershenstine Rattlesnake Beer

People probably know Pappy Kershenstine from their beef jerky products, (my review of their beef jerky on www.beefjerkyland.com), but back in the late 80's or maybe early 90's I remember them having their own beer and wine coolers. They used to sell them in the Houma, Louisiana area and Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi areas if I remember correctly. I've been wondering if they still make their Rattlesnake Beer? Now, don't get me wrong, as I remember it, the beer wasn't the best thing in the world, but I've been dying to drink it again. Before I start calling the company, I'd like to know if anyone has seen this beer out there recently. Please let me know.

Miss You Like Crazy - A Certified Hit?

I found this Philippine movie the other day and found the marketing kind of unusual... "A Certified Blockbuster Hit"?? What certification process do they use? I demand to see this certification! "Must Have Video"? - No it isn't, I watched this crap and believe me, this isn't a "must have" video, in fact, I'd put it in the "must miss" category.

Are Magazine Companies Now Giving Away Their Magazines For Free?

I've been noticing a trend lately that I've been lucky enough to be able to take part in. Lately, I've been getting offers for free magazine subscriptions, in the last 3 months I've received free year subscriptions offers from Popular Science, Rolling Stone, Men's Journal and Men's Health. Always wanting something for free I took them up on their offers. Then, my subscription to Entertainment Weekly was supposed to end at the beginning of March and I'm still receiving issue after issue of the magazine! Is this a trend that magazines are going to keep up? Maybe the magazine industry is hurting so bad that their plan is to keep their distribution up and their ad revenue coming in, so instead of charging for magazine subscriptions they will give away free subscriptions and keep the readership level high. Or maybe, I've just been lucky with the offers and Entertainment Weekly forgot to stop sending their magazine. Has anyone else been getting these free subscription offers?
